The great tradition of Cuban son will come to Calabria for an evening of live music, set against the unique backdrop of the Teatro dei Ruderi in Cirella, Diamante. On Sunday, 9 August 2026, Grupo Compay Segundo — comprising musicians associated with the legendary Buena Vista Social Club — will bring the rhythms, stories, and atmosphere of authentic Havana to the stage. Led by double bassist Salvador Repilado Labrada, son of the legendary Compay Segundo, the ensemble preserves and revitalises one of the world's most cherished musical legacies.

Accompanying him are the vocals and maracas of Hugo Garzón Bargalló, who has been a key figure in the international Buena Vista Social Club project since 1997. All of the musicians are from Cuba and will perform the repertoire that introduced Cuban son to an international audience, featuring timeless melodies, improvisation and folk sounds. This concert brings together different generations and is set against the picturesque backdrop of the Teatro dei Ruderi in Cirella, overlooking the Riviera dei Cedri and the Tyrrhenian Sea off the coast of Calabria.
