A tribute to Guccini at the Teatro Cilea on 18 December

On Friday 18 December 2026, at 9 pm, the Teatro Francesco Cilea in Reggio Calabria welcomes I Musici di Francesco Guccini with the show «Ma a noi piace pensarlo ancora dietro al motore», a line from his song «La locomotiva». It is one of two dates in Calabria: the night before, Thursday 17 December, the same concert is staged at the Teatro Politeama in Catanzaro.

Francesco Guccini died on 6 August 2026 in Pavana, aged 86. These concerts, announced by promoter Ruggero Pegna as a tribute to a «giant and part of the history of Italian songwriting and culture», are among the first live remembrances of the songwriter in Calabria.

Who plays: the songwriter's long-time band

On stage is the line-up that accompanied Guccini for years on record and on tour: Juan Carlos «Flaco» Biondini on guitars and vocals, Vince Tempera on piano and keyboards, Antonio Marangolo on wind instruments and percussion, Ellade Bandini on drums and percussion, and Giacomo Marzi on electric bass.

This is not a tribute band: these are the musicians who built that repertoire together with him. The concert moves through songs that shaped Italian songwriting, alternating them with stories of life on the road beside the «Maestrone».

Closing the 40th edition of Fatti di Musica

The two evenings close the 40th edition of Fatti di Musica, the live songwriting festival and award directed by Ruggero Pegna and organised by Show Net. The link with Guccini goes back a long way: he took part in the festival four times, in 1997 and 2007 at the Palacorvo in Catanzaro, in 2000 at the Palacalafiore in Reggio Calabria and in 2010 at the Stadio Lorenzon in Rende, and Pegna presented him with the Riccio d'Argento award.

For Reggio, the concert at the Cilea picks up the thread of that night at the Palacalafiore twenty-six years ago.
