RifleSsuoni: aperitivo and sunset jazz at the Tauriani Archaeological Park
Parco Archeologico dei Tauriani · Palmi, Costa Viola, Calabria
22 August 2026
On Saturday 22 August 2026 the Tauriani Archaeological Park in Palmi hosts RifleSsuoni, an evening of aperitivo and sunset jazz and the second date of the first edition of Tauriani in Jazz. The evening opens at 6.30pm with a guided tour of the excavations, followed by cocktails and then the concert, performed by Chiara Provvidenza on vocals and Tommaso Pugliese on double bass. Their duo programme moves between jazz, songwriting and improvisation, from Henry Mancini to Charles Mingus and Michel Legrand, along with original pieces written by Pugliese. There are two ways to take part: 18 euros for the tour, the sunset aperitivo and the concert, or 12 euros for the tour and the concert. The evening is organised by the Movimento Culturale San Fantino association, the volunteer group that also runs visits to the park, with the support of the Palmi town council. The park is at via del Vescovato 181, in the Taureana district of Palmi; for information and bookings call +39 347 986 2297.
An evening of music on the plateau of ancient Tauriana
RifleSsuoni brings jazz inside the Tauriani Archaeological Park, on the Taureana plateau where the ancient town once stood. The park sits on top of a cliff facing the Tyrrhenian Sea, and from up there the view reaches Capo Vaticano and, on clear evenings, the Aeolian Islands: this is the setting for the guided tour, the aperitivo and the concert, with the sun going down over the sea shortly before eight. The evening is part of the first edition of Tauriani in Jazz and is the festival's second date, conceived to bring live music and the archaeological site together.
How the evening unfolds
Everyone meets at 6.30pm for the guided tour of the excavations: you walk among the remains of the Bruttian and Roman town before the music begins. The tour is followed by an open-air aperitivo as the light fades, and then by the sunset concert. Those who choose the 12-euro option join the tour and the concert without the aperitivo.
RifleSsuoni: voice and double bass
On stage are Chiara Provvidenza on vocals and Tommaso Pugliese on double bass. RifleSsuoni is the project the two take on tour as a duo, moving between jazz, songwriting and improvisation: the programme runs from Henry Mancini to Charles Mingus and Michel Legrand, and includes original pieces written by Pugliese. The line-up is pared right back, with no drums or piano, leaving the conversation between voice and strings out in the open.
The two musicians
Chiara Provvidenza was born in 1994 in Modica, Sicily. She trained as a jazz singer and in March 2023 was chosen as lead vocalist of the Italian National Jazz Orchestra of the Conservatories; in 2022 she received the Premio Donna Siciliana for artistic and teaching merit, and in 2024 she published a jazz singing manual with Volontè & Co. Alongside singing she teaches and works as a vocal coach. Tommaso Pugliese, on the other hand, is a local: born in Scilla in 1994, he started on electric bass at fourteen and moved to the double bass seven years later. He trained at the Corelli conservatory in Messina, graduating in jazz electric bass in 2018, in jazz performance and composition in 2020 and in jazz double bass in 2022.
The Tauriani Archaeological Park
The park is named after Antonio De Salvo and was inaugurated on 17 September 2011 on the plateau of ancient Tauriana, in the Taureana district of Palmi. Across roughly three hectares you can read several different eras: a protohistoric village four thousand years old, the urban layout of the Bruttian and later Roman town between the 4th century BC and the 4th century AD, the residential quarters and the sanctuary that everyone in Palmi calls the house of Donna Canfora. The most recognisable structure is the entertainment building, shaped like a theatre but built as an amphitheatre for gladiatorial combat, with room for around three thousand spectators. Visits and public opening are run by the Movimento Culturale San Fantino, the volunteer association behind this evening, under an agreement with the Palmi town council.
Tickets and bookings
There are two options: 18 euros covers the tour of the archaeological park, the sunset aperitivo and the jazz concert, while 12 euros covers the tour and the concert. For information and bookings the number is +39 347 986 2297. The evening is presented by the Movimento Culturale San Fantino association with the support of the town council of Palmi. The tour is on foot and outdoors, so comfortable shoes are a good idea, along with something light to put on once the sun has set.
Getting there and what is nearby
The park is at via del Vescovato 181, in Taureana, the district of Palmi that looks out over the sea above Pietrenere beach: it is a few minutes by car from the town centre. If you arrive in the afternoon you can stop at the sea first, since the beaches in Palmi are all close by; for dinner after the concert there is the guide to where to eat in Palmi, while everything else the town has to offer, from Monte Sant'Elia down, is gathered in leisure and sport in Palmi. Other summer dates are listed in the events section and, if you are staying a few days, you will find holiday rentals here.
