Three evenings from 18 October to 21 November
The LSS Theater's Autumn Season 2026 in Polistena consists of three concerts spread between mid-October and late November, each in a different musical language: Italian songwriting reworked for voice and piano, American-style soul and funk, and Argentine tango with live music and dancing.
The dates are: Sunday 18 October at 9pm, the Quintessenza Duo with “Battisti in chiave cameristica” (Battisti, chamber style); Sunday 15 November at 9.30pm, the M.S.S.M. Italy Tour with Frank McComb; Saturday 21 November at 8.30pm, “Tango Argentino Live”, a quartet plus dancers. The evenings are promoted by Volume APS, the association that runs the venue and takes bookings on its website.
18 October: Quintessenza Duo play Battisti
The season opens with the Quintessenza Duo, singer Sara D'Angelo and pianist Pasquale Morgante. Their project strips the songs of Lucio Battisti, one of the best-loved Italian songwriters, down to voice and piano, with lighter arrangements that put the melody and the lyrics in the foreground.
Sara D'Angelo trained in Bologna, at the Scuola di Teatro Colli and the Bernstein School of Musical Theater, and has worked in drama, musicals and vocal groups; since 2016 she has sung with the Four Seasons Trio. Pasquale Morgante, originally from Reggio Calabria, moved to Bologna at eighteen and graduated in piano, electronic music and jazz; as a pianist and arranger he has worked with artists including Samuele Bersani, Paolo Fresu and Massimo Ranieri, and he now teaches at the Ferrara Conservatory.
15 November: Frank McComb and the M.S.S.M. Italy Tour
The second evening brings to Polistena Frank McComb, the American soul singer, pianist and keyboard player, leading a quartet completed by three Italian musicians: Marcello Sutera on bass, Francesco Mendolia on drums and Donato Sensini on saxophones and flutes. The set moves between soul, funk and jazz, all played live.
The organisers pitch it as a chance to hear McComb up close, in a room of around a hundred seats. The M.S.S.M. Italy Tour also visits other cities this autumn: announced dates include the Alcazar in Rome on 30 October and Teatro Forma in Bari on 14 November, the night before Polistena. This is the most expensive show of the season.
21 November: Tango Argentino Live
On Saturday 21 November at 8.30pm the season closes with “Tango Argentino Live”, a show pairing an instrumental quartet with two dancers. Toto Ielasi plays bass, Gino Mattiani accordion, Andrea Militano piano and Chiara Stella Capria violin, while Patrizia Zappone and Francesco Guerrisi dance.
The poster describes the evening as an elegant milonga with live music: a milonga is the social tango dance typical of Buenos Aires, here brought onto the theatre stage. It is the only Saturday date and the one with the earliest start, half an hour before the opening concert.
Volume membership, contributions and seat booking
Entry is tied to membership: you need a Volume association card, plus a contribution for each evening. For the Quintessenza Duo and the Tango Quartet the contribution is 10 euros if you book online and 15 euros if you pay at the door; for Frank McComb it rises to 25 euros online and 30 euros at the door. The price of the membership card itself is not given on the event pages.
Bookings are made on the Volume APS website, where you pick your seat in the stalls for each show. For information the association answers on +39 371 346 5911 and at info@volumeaps.org. With a room this size, seats are limited: if you want to sit close to the stage, book early.
LSS Theater: location and getting there
The LSS Theater is on Viale degli Artigiani, in the PIP business zone of Contrada Primogenito in Polistena. It opened in 2018 inside the LSS headquarters and is run by Volume, a non-profit cultural association founded in November that year to promote music, art and culture in Calabria; besides the theatre, the building has a cinema, conference room, bar and events hall.
Polistena lies on the SS682 Jonio-Tirreno road: from the A2 motorway take the Rosarno exit and follow the Jonio-Tirreno inland. The Gioia Tauro–Cinquefrondi railway that used to serve the town has been suspended since 2011, so a car is the practical option. The sources do not mention dedicated parking.
What to see in Polistena before the show
Polistena sits on the eastern edge of the Gioia Tauro plain, on the lower slopes of the Aspromonte. The 1783 earthquake flattened the town, and most of its churches were rebuilt afterwards: the cathedral of Santa Marina Vergine, dedicated to the patron saint, and the sanctuary of Maria Santissima dell'Itria, also called the Trinity church, with its dome covered in coloured majolica tiles. The small church of Sant'Anna is considered the oldest, precisely because it was the only building to survive the earthquake.
For dinner before or after the show, see the businesses in Polistena; other events in the area are in the events calendar.
