Theatre Season at the “Francesco Cilea” Theatre in Reggio Calabria

The beating heart of Reggio Calabria’s cultural life, the Francesco Cilea Theatre has, over its nearly one-hundred-year history, welcomed great stars of the international stage to its stage, from Maria Callas to Luciano Pavarotti. A landmark of the city, where the tradition of live performance continues to evolve, it will host the “Calabria Teatri in Città” Festival from 8 to 15 December 2026. The project, which brings together the theatre programmes of Calabria’s five regional capitals into a single regional programme, finds one of its most representative venues in the Cilea, weaving the city’s history and cultural identity into a new experience of collaboration between regions.

Event details

Co-funded by the Calabria Region with PAC Calabria 2014–2020 funds, ‘Calabria Teatri in Città’ stems from a collaboration between the Region, local councils and the participating theatre organisations, to promote Calabria’s theatrical heritage, supporting artistic productions and facilitating the touring of performances. The project aims to transcend the boundaries of individual city-based programmes to build a shared cultural network, capable of fostering dialogue between theatres, artists and audiences, and offering new opportunities to discover Calabria through live performance. The programme of performances and details on how to take part will be announced shortly.
