Festival History The Reggio Film Fest, offers film buffs a series of screenings and meetings in a setting of great cultural and natural beauty, such as the Seafront of the city of Reggio Calabria. Historically, the mission of the Reggio Film Fest is the promotion of film culture in Calabria, with a particular interest in enhancing Calabrian locations, actors and authors, and film works born, raised and developed in the region.

Twenty years of cinema in Piazza De Nava

From 21 to 26 September 2026, Reggio Calabria becomes the capital of cinema with the twentieth edition of the Reggio Calabria Film Fest, which since 2006 has promoted film culture in Calabria with particular attention to Calabrian locations, actors and directors and to works born and raised in the region. The festival takes place in the square of the National Archaeological Museum, Piazza Giuseppe De Nava, an increasingly central cultural and artistic hub for the city, with screenings, debates and encounters with guests from Italian and international cinema.

The sections: Millennial Movie and Bergamotto d'Argento

The programme is built around several long-running sections. Millennial Movie, also reaching its twentieth edition, looks at cinema through the eyes of new generations; the Bergamotto d'Argento is the award the festival gives to film personalities, its name recalling the citrus fruit that symbolises the Riviera dei Gelsomini and the Reggio Calabria area. Screenings alternate with talks and debates featuring industry professionals.

Next Actor Calabria: the contest for emerging actors and comedians

Alongside the screenings, the festival hosts Next Actor Calabria, a competition for actors, actresses and stand-up comedians competing to break through. Rehearsals run from 22 to 25 September 2026, from 5 pm to 7 pm, at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Reggio Calabria: among ten selected finalists, three winners receive the final award. Applications close on 19 September 2026 at 7 pm.

The festival is organised by the Associazione Artistico Culturale Eventi, supported by the Fondazione Calabria Film Commission and under the patronage of Italy's Ministry of Culture, the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, the National Archaeological Museum, RAI, the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Reggio Calabria: a network that over the years has made the Film Fest one of the reference cultural events of the Reggio summer, running into September.
