Prequali IBI27 in Oppido Mamertina: five draws for amateur tennis

On Friday 20, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November 2026 the courts of the Tennis Club Oppido «Gianni Caruso», on Corso Aspromonte in Oppido Mamertina, host a stop of Prequali IBI27, the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation circuit for amateur TPRA tennis linked to the pre-qualifying tournaments of the 2027 Internazionali BNL d'Italia, the Italian Open.
The tournament awards circuit ranking points in five Expert Level draws: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. It is one of the tennis tournaments in the province of Reggio Calabria scheduled for the autumn and is open to a very wide field: from Under 12 juniors to fourth-category adults, with either a competitive or a non-competitive membership card.

What the FITP-TPRA Prequali IBI27 circuit is

Prequali IBI27 is the TPRA tennis circuit the FITP runs across Italy during the season leading up to the 2027 Internazionali BNL d'Italia, the tournament that fills Rome's Foro Italico every spring. According to the official circuit regulations, qualifying tournaments are played from 14 September 2026 to 7 February 2027; every result earns points based on the finishing position and the type of tournament, feeding the provincial and regional rankings.
Once the qualifying phase is over, the circuit moves on to the Masters: the regional Master is played by 4 April 2027, the national Master from 7 to 9 May 2027. The Regional Committee may also hold provincial qualifying Masters, as shown on the poster for the Oppido stop, and publishes any regional regulations in the circuit section of tpra.fitp.it.
The amateur circuit runs alongside the competitive pre-qualifying tournaments for the Italian Open, the provincial and regional events that lead to the wild cards for Rome: in the FITP calendar the regional phase for Sicily and Calabria is listed for February 2027, with dates subject to change.

Who can enter: from Under 12 to a 4.4 ranking

The circuit is reserved for FITP tennis members, competitive and non-competitive. The ranking limits are those printed on the poster: from 4NC to 4.4 in singles and from 4NC to 4.1 in doubles. The regulations also require a best-ever ranking no higher than 3.5 and no permanent tennis qualification.
One feature sets Prequali IBI27 apart from ordinary TPRA tournaments: only in this circuit can Under 12 and Under 14 members take part as well, provided they are over 10 years old. For clubs and tennis schools in Calabria it is a real chance to let young players compete in a proper federal tournament alongside adults, with a draw, an order of play and a ranking.
Players whose ranking rises above the limits during the circuit can no longer play qualifying tournaments, but keep any right they have earned to take part in the Masters.

The five Expert Level draws and how to register

Each draw has its own page on the TPRA portal, with rules, fee and registration status:
Men's singles, up to 24 players: tournament page
Women's singles, up to 16 players: tournament page
Men's doubles, up to 16 pairs: tournament page
Women's doubles, up to 16 pairs: tournament page
Mixed doubles, up to 16 pairs: tournament page
Registration opened on 12 October and closes on Wednesday 18 November 2026 at 18:00, which is also the deadline for withdrawing. The fee is €15 for a single draw, singles or doubles, and €25 for players entering both singles and doubles. To register, log in to tpra.fitp.it with your federation credentials, open the draw page and confirm your entry; for doubles the portal also has a feature to find a partner.

Match format, courts and prizes

All draws are single elimination. The format set by the organisers is best of three short sets to 4 games, with a tie-break in place of a deciding third set: quick matches, suited to a tournament packed into three days and to players of very different ages and levels.
Matches are played on the club's two outdoor hard courts. The schedule is announced through the order of play published on the TPRA portal after registration closes, and that is where to check times and rounds. Prizes are awarded to the top two finishers in each draw.

From Oppido to the Masters and the Italian Open

Every match won in Oppido Mamertina counts in the circuit's provincial ranking. The top 8 in each provincial singles ranking and the top 4 in doubles qualify for the regional Master, where doubles qualifiers may pick a partner from the regional ranking. The national Master in May 2027 is reserved for the winner of each regional Master and the regional ranking leader at the end of the circuit; in doubles, the pairs who win the regional Masters.
The regulations also give winners two direct benefits. The winner of each singles tournament may enter, free of charge, the fourth-category pre-qualifying tournament for IBI 2027 in their own province, joining the draw at the round for players of the same ranking: a competitive membership card is required, and only TPRA tournaments won in the player's own province and played before the relevant fourth-category event count. In addition, the winners of draws with at least 8 singles entrants, or 4 doubles pairs, receive a complimentary ground ticket for the 2027 Internazionali BNL d'Italia, to be collected in Rome on the day of use.
From there the road to the Foro Italico runs through the competitive pre-qualifying events: from the regional fourth- and third-category closing draws, Calabria too sends one player per category to the final Masters played at the Foro Italico.

TC Oppido «Gianni Caruso» and tennis in the Gioia Tauro plain

The Tennis Club Oppido «Gianni Caruso» keeps one of the oldest tennis traditions in the Piana: founded in the mid-1970s, by the 1990s it was already hosting a women's Serie A tournament. Today the recently renovated municipal courts on Corso Aspromonte are home to the men's Serie D2 and women's Serie D teams, the tennis school and, every August, the «Città di Oppido Mamertina» National Tournament. In September the club also hosted a stop of the national pickleball circuit Road to Bologna.
Oppido belongs to an area where tennis is at home: across the Piana di Gioia Tauro you will find the Circolo Tennis Gioia 1974 and the Circolo Tennis Marines in Gioia Tauro, ASD Tennis Palmi, the Circolo Tennis Taurianova, the Circolo Tennis Rizziconi, the Polisportiva Accademia Tennis in Cittanova and Tennis Park Rosarno. For fourth-category members and young players from local tennis schools, the November stop is a tournament close to home that earns points on the road to Rome.

Getting to Oppido Mamertina and what to see during the tournament weekend

Oppido Mamertina is reached by car on the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo, taking the Rosarno or Gioia Tauro exit and heading inland along the roads that climb from the Piana towards the Aspromonte. The most convenient railway station is Gioia Tauro, about seventeen kilometres away; the Strait airport at Reggio Calabria is roughly sixty kilometres away.
Players and parents travelling for the tournament can make the most of the weekend. Two kilometres from town lie the ruins of Oppido Vecchia, the medieval town abandoned after the 1783 earthquake and now an archaeological park; in the rebuilt centre you can visit Piazza Duomo, the cathedral and the MuDOP diocesan museum. Bars, restaurants and places to stay nearby are listed on the Oppido Mamertina businesses page.
