European Heritage Days at the National Archaeological Park of Locri Epizefiri

On Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September 2026, the Locri Epizefiri National Archaeological Park will be taking part in the European Heritage Days with a programme dedicated to archaeological research and the discovery of the Thesmophorion, one of the ancient city’s most important sacred sites. The event offers the public the opportunity to learn, for the first time, about the results of the excavation campaign launched in 2024 and still ongoing, conducted in collaboration with the University of Bologna. On Saturday 26 September, the Archaeological Museum will be open exceptionally from 8.00 pm to 11.00 pm, with admission at a symbolic cost of 1 euro.

Event details

At 9.00 pm, there will be a talk entitled ‘The Goddesses of Wheat: Myths, Rituals and Mysteries in the Thesmophorion of Locri Epizefiri’, dedicated to presenting the latest archaeological findings and exploring the cults and rituals associated with this sacred area. On Sunday 27 September, from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm, visitors will be able to take part in a guided tour of the archaeological site, led by members of the excavation team. The tour is included in the price of the admission ticket.
