A new itinerary, launching on 11 October 2026

On Sunday 11 October 2026 RailTour launches the Magna Graecia Train to Pentedattilo, an itinerary dedicated to one of the most recognisable villages of the Greek Area. The idea is simple and solves a real problem: Pentedattilo is spectacular but awkward to reach without your own car, and this package combines train and coach into a single journey, making it a feasible day trip from much of Calabria.

Where you can start from

Departures on the Ionian line are available from Catanzaro Lido, Soverato, Monasterace, Roccella Jonica, Gioiosa Jonica, Siderno, Locri, Bovalino, Bianco, Brancaleone, Bova Marina and the other scheduled stations along the route. The service is also reachable from Lamezia Terme Centrale, with a rail connection at Catanzaro Lido, and from Reggio Calabria Centrale, arriving by train at Melito di Porto Salvo. It is broad coverage, linking the whole Ionian coast of the Reggio and Catanzaro provinces.

From Melito di Porto Salvo up to the village

Melito di Porto Salvo is the connecting point: from there participants continue together aboard a dedicated RailTour coach climbing towards Pentedattilo. This is the leg that makes the package worthwhile: the final stretch of road, the real obstacle for anyone without a car, is already included and organised.

The narrated visit and free time in the village

On arrival the narrated visit begins with Domenico Guarna of Il Giardino di Morgana – Archeotrekking ed escursioni, moving through history, legends, views of the Greek Area and the artisan workshops. Pentedattilo lives on storytelling at least as much as on landscape, and an accompanied visit changes the experience considerably compared with wandering alone. The programme also includes free time, to explore at your own pace.

How to book

The itinerary is a RailTour package: precise times for each departure station, conditions and prices are published on the initiative's official channels, where bookings are also taken. As this is a launch date, booking early is advisable. If you are building a weekend in the area, have a look at other events in Calabria in the same period.
