4 October 2026
On Sunday 4 October 2026 the Italian Touring Club runs the Caccia ai Tesori Arancioni, a treasure hunt held simultaneously in a hundred villages certified with the Orange Flag. It is not a competition but a six-stage clue trail that takes teams around the village, stopping where visitors usually do not. Three of the hundred villages are in Calabria: Gerace, Morano Calabro and Taverna, each with its own theme. The event is open to adults and children alike, and taking part requires registering a team and paying a small participation contribution.
A hundred villages, one day: Sunday 4 October 2026
On Sunday 4 October 2026 the Italian Touring Club runs the Caccia ai Tesori Arancioni, a treasure hunt held simultaneously across a hundred villages certified with the Orange Flag. It is not a competition: it is a six-stage clue trail that takes teams around the village, stopping in places visitors usually walk past. The event is open to everyone, adults and children, and can be tackled as a family, with friends or independently.
In Calabria: Gerace, Morano Calabro and Taverna
Of the hundred villages involved nationwide, three are in Calabria and cover three different provinces: Gerace near Reggio Calabria, Morano Calabro in the province of Cosenza and Taverna in the province of Catanzaro. Each village offers a route with its own theme, built on its own history and heritage, so the three experiences are not interchangeable: choosing the village also means choosing the character of the day.
Gerace: a route built on tradition
In Gerace the route is built around tradition, with characters in traditional or historical dress accompanying teams along the stages and turning the game into a small piece of staging. The meeting point is the Tourist Office at the Museo Civico, Piazza Tribuna 15, with check-in from 10:00 to 18:30. It is the widest window of the three Calabrian stops, and therefore the most convenient for anyone travelling in without a fixed schedule.
Morano Calabro and Taverna: art, history and flavours
In Morano Calabro the treasure hunt focuses on art, history and curiosities, among monuments, squares and stories of the village: the meeting point is the San Bernardino complex, Piazza San Bernardino, from 10:00 to 18:00. In Taverna the theme is local flavours instead, with tastings and local curiosities along the route: here the meeting point is the Tourist Office in Piazza del Popolo 14, but the window is narrower, from 16:00 to 18:00.
Registration, contribution and what you receive
