European Heritage Days at the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria

On Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September 2026, the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria will be taking part in the European Heritage Days, an initiative dedicated to raising awareness of and promoting cultural heritage. The theme chosen for this year’s event, ‘Protecting heritage. Renewing, resisting, reinventing’, forms the basis of a programme designed for visitors of all ages, featuring guided tours, workshops, archaeology, accessibility and in-depth sessions. On Saturday 26 September, the programme begins at 10.30 am with the guided tour ‘A new museum. Archaeology and accessibility’.

Event details

In the afternoon, there’s something for the little ones with “The archaeologist’s craft: from excavation to history”, a simulated excavation workshop for children aged 6 to 11, and “Little palaeontologists discovering dinosaurs”, aimed at children aged 3 to 5. At 6.00 pm, there will be a presentation of the book “The Kouros of Rhegion. Recovery, Restoration, Enhancement’, edited by Carmelo Malacrino. The day continues with a special evening opening from 8.00 pm to midnight, with last admission at 11.30 pm and tickets available at the symbolic price of 1 euro. At 9.30 pm, there will be a second session of the guided tour dedicated to archaeology and accessibility. On Sunday 27 September, the guided tours “A New Museum. Archaeology and Accessibility” return, with sessions at 10.30 am, 11.30 am and 5.30 pm. At 11.00 am, the focus shifts to “Traces of the Strait at the MArRC. Contemporary Art, Memory and Shared Landscapes”, featuring creative workshops.
