From 17 to 20 September 2026, Piazza Indipendenza in Reggio Calabria will host the Barrel Race – Journey of Regional Identities, an event that brings together folk traditions, wine culture, music and festive celebrations. The programme kicks off on Thursday 17 September at 5.00 pm with the Parade of the Neighbourhoods, followed at 7.00 pm by the opening of the Village of Local Identities, accompanied by a DJ set. On Friday 18 September, at 6.00 pm, it’s time for the team selection and the competitions, whilst from 8.00 pm the evening continues with Neighbourhood Food and music.

Event details

On Saturday 19 September, the event really gets into full swing with the Children’s Palio delle Botti at 6.00 pm, followed at 7.00 pm by the Grape Festival and grape harvest. At 8.30 pm, the focus shifts to music with the FISAR Masterclass and ‘Cibo delle Contrade’. The final day, Sunday 20 September, features the awards ceremony and the presentation of the ‘Anfora d’Oro’ at 7.00 pm, followed by more ‘Cibo delle Contrade’ and a DJ set.
