“Voce 'e notte”: Neapolitan music theatre
“Voce 'e notte” is a piece of teatro canzone, the blend of Neapolitan song, poetry and acting that Lina Sastri has been developing for years. The season's presentation calls it a journey into the soul of the Neapolitan tradition; its producer, A.G. Spettacoli, describes it as the result of long research in which words, music and dance meet along the thread of personal storytelling.
It is the latest in a series that runs from “Lina rossa” and “Cuore mio” to “Corpo celeste”, “Appunti di viaggio” and “Eduardo mio”. In previous seasons Sastri wrote and directed it herself, with Adriano Pennino at the piano; the musicians for the Reggio date have not been announced. Her official biography announced a live vinyl recording of the voice-and-piano show for November 2025. The show is in Italian and Neapolitan.
Who Lina Sastri is
An actress, singer, writer and director, Lina Sastri trained with Eduardo De Filippo, whose favourite pupil she was according to her official biography. On stage she has worked with directors such as Roberto De Simone, Armando Pugliese and Lluís Pasqual, and has played Filumena Marturano opposite Luca De Filippo as well as La Lupa, Medea and Assunta Spina.
On screen she played Anna Magnani in Carlo Lizzani's “Celluloide” and has worked with Ferzan Özpetek, Woody Allen, John Turturro and Giuseppe Tornatore, among others; she has won three David di Donatello awards and a Nastro d'argento. She made her film directing debut with “La casa di Ninetta”, based on her book about her mother, and in 2025 received the SIAE lifetime achievement award at the Venice festival.
