An evening devoted to the best of the woodland

When it presented its summer–autumn 2026 programme, the town council described “Saperi e Sapori d'Aspromonte in Mannoli” as a “celebration of the finest produce of the undergrowth” and placed it, together with the Mushroom Festival in Gambarie, among the cornerstone events of local tradition.

Local produce from the Santo Stefano area includes mushrooms, chestnuts, honey, olive oil, cured meats and cheeses. The detailed programme for the evening, with the products on offer and the names of the musicians, has not been published yet, so check the municipality's and the organisers' channels closer to the date.

Mannoli and Umberto Zanotti Bianco

Mannoli is one of the two hamlets of Santo Stefano in Aspromonte, the other being Gambarie. Its recent history is tied to Umberto Zanotti Bianco, who after his 1909 survey of the Aspromonte chose Mannoli, for its healthy climate and open space, as the site of a mountain colony for children suffering from malaria or at risk of tuberculosis.

The “Leopoldo Franchetti” colony opened in 1922, at first only in summer and later all year round. In 1932 a small wooden chapel was built there, which over time became Mannoli's church, and the hamlet's main square is now named after Zanotti Bianco. That is where the municipal programme holds Mannoli's summer evenings, from the August concerts to the music show for the patron saint's feast of Maria Santissima Assunta on 15 August.

Autumn in Santo Stefano in Aspromonte and Gambarie

Saperi e Sapori closes the autumn part of the municipal programme, devoted to food festivals. In the preceding weeks come the Ottobrata d'Aspromonte on Saturday 17 October, a fair of local produce with a concert by Cosimo Papandrea, and the 35th Mushroom Festival in Piazza Mangeruca, Gambarie, on Sunday 25 October, postponed from 11 October.

On the same day, 1 November, higher up in the municipality, the Aspropark adventure park at Forge in Gambarie hosts the last day of the fifth “Parco delle Zucche” (Pumpkin Park), with music and fun, which started in October. If you are heading up into the Aspromonte for the day, you can combine the two. Other events in the area are listed in our events calendar.
