Sagra du Pruppu 2026 – 31st Octopus Festival in Joppolo, Calabria

On 4 August 2026 the seafront of Joppolo hosts the 31st edition of the Sagra du Pruppu, the historic Octopus Festival of Calabria's Costa degli Dei, held in memory of Domenico Burzi. From 8:00 pm the village overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea turns into a large open-air celebration where traditional Calabrian seafood cooking meets live music.
The star of the evening is 'u pruppu, octopus caught in the waters of Joppolo and cooked following the old recipes of local fishermen. A single €20.00 ticket includes a full fixed menu: fresh pasta with octopus, octopus salad, and polpo alla Joppolese, the village's signature dish, served with wine or water and bread.
A live DJ set plays throughout the night, with the sea as a natural backdrop — an unmissable date for anyone looking for authentic food festivals in Calabria, seafood traditions and summer atmosphere along the Costa degli Dei, between Tropea and Capo Vaticano.
The festival is organised by the Municipality of Joppolo. The event is cancelled in case of rain. Arriving early is recommended: parking is available near the seafront, but a large turnout is expected for this anniversary edition.
