Event details

Dream of dancing the Calabrian tarantella all night long? The Kaulonia Tarantella Festival returns from 19 to 22 August 2026 for its 28th edition, with nationally and internationally renowned artists. We are in Caulonia, on the Ionian coast in the province of Reggio Calabria, the ancient old town where one of the best-loved festivals of Calabrian folk music and dance is held every year. As always, the picturesque village provides the backdrop: the town comes alive with courses and seminars, in-depth meetings and evening concerts in the scenic setting of Piazza Mese. Then, as tradition dictates, everyone dances until the sun rises and dawn over the Ionian Sea lights up the iconic “Sperone” overlook.

The 28th edition: a focus on Peace

The 2026 edition, the twenty-eighth, takes Peace as its guiding theme, a choice that weaves together culture, civic memory and current affairs. The festival dedicates it to Angelo Frammartino, a young volunteer from Caulonia killed in Jerusalem on 10 August 2006, on the twentieth anniversary of his death. Four days of concerts, dances and cultural encounters turn the heart of the Ionian village into an open-air stage, where the tarantella tradition meets new artistic sensibilities. Churches, alleys, squares and the panoramic views over the Allaro and Amusa valleys become an integral part of the festival experience.

Caulonia and its old town

Caulonia is a hilltop village of the Ionian hinterland of Reggio Calabria, overlooking river valleys and not far from the coast. Its old town, made of narrow streets, stairways and panoramic viewpoints, offers the ideal setting for a festival built on closeness and participation. In the evenings folk music fills the squares and streets, while by day workshops and talks on Calabrian culture follow one another.
