Il Treno del Mare – Roccella Special

On Sunday, 16 August 2026, Il Treno del Mare will reach the Ionian Railway for the first time with a special service dedicated to Roccella Ionica, offering a sustainable way to reach the Costa dei Gelsomini and spend a day exploring the area. The initiative allows you to travel to Roccella using regional trains, with departures from Catanzaro Lido and Reggio Calabria Centrale, and the option to board at various intermediate stations along the Ionian line. RailTour guides will be on hand throughout the journey to assist participants. Arrival in Roccella Ionica is scheduled for 8.31 am.

Event details

The day will begin with a shuttle transfer to MUSMIR - the Immersive Multimedia Museum of Roccella Ionica - where a guided tour will provide an in-depth insight into the history and identity of the area. Afterwards, at around 11.00, the group will head to the seaside district to spend a few hours at their leisure on the beach, near Porto delle Grazie. Lunch is at your own expense. In the afternoon, at 6.00 pm, the Walk for the Cure will set off from the Roccella Ionica seafront - an approximately 8 km walk in support of breast cancer prevention and the fight against the disease. The route will pass through some of the town’s most iconic spots and is expected to finish at around 7.45 pm. Participation in the walk requires a separate booking and involves a voluntary contribution of 10 euros - free for children - which will go towards Komen Italia’s projects. The "Treno del Mare" package includes a return journey on the regional train, transfer from the station to MUSMIR, a visit to the museum and assistance from RailTour guides. Participation in the FitWalking event is not included.
