On Saturday 25 July, the Villa Comunale of Palmi turns into a little Montmartre. Artists from across Calabria and beyond gather along the park's tree-lined paths to capture the town's landscapes on canvas: Monte Sant'Elia, La Marinella, and the corners of the old town overlooking the Costa Viola.
The day begins at 9:00 am with the stamping of the canvases, the moment that officially opens the competition and ensures every work is created entirely on site. From then on the Villa Comunale fills with easels, palettes and blank canvases that slowly take form: an open-air studio where the public can follow the whole creative process, from the first charcoal line to the final glazes of colour.
Visitors are kindly asked to watch closely but without interfering, giving the artists the quiet they need. That is precisely where the value of the experience lies: witnessing a work of art come into being, moment by moment, with Palmi in the spotlight for all the right reasons.
